No matter where we have been, it is always nice to go back to Middleton and look out the back. It is a lovely sight and long may it stay that way!! So, after a few hours kip we were up and away. Post to read, people to see, things to do and the trip back to Corfu to sort. However, first things first – does the car still work?? Well the old tub has stood outside the house for almost three months and she fired up first time. That was the easy part, getting it to move well that was another thing. The hand brake had stuck on at one side and was not moving!! You can imagine the language….I tried everything and had to resort to jacking the car up and taking the wheel and drum off to free it. It was now working and moving so it was the dreaded MOT next. Amazing all they could find was a flat on a brake pipe so taxed, tested, insured and raring to go.
The time home in the UK was the usual catching up with family and a string of social gatherings (which we always enjoy.) Ensuring all is well with the house and Mrs D on a shopping frenzy for Middleton and Corfu! There is also the obligatory pork pie, fish, chips, real ale and Bradford curry to fit in, all of which are a must on any time spent in the UK!! We also had a good live music fix and even a guided pub crawl round Sowerby Bridge!!
The load for the car was as usual getting bigger, with another door, a petrol strimmer, chest of drawers and all the usual small items we take which are far too expensive in Corfu. Funny but once friends in Corfu find out your back in the UK the e-mails start to come in “can you get me this that and the other, they are only small!!” We don’t mind really as long as they stay small. As usual the time just flies and no sooner had we landed then we were moving on again.
The date we had in mind to set off to Corfu – Sunday 30th May was upon us again!! Having ticked all the must do and must buy boxes we were ready for the off. It is always sad leaving home whether it be from the UK or Corfu, it is always the people you miss not so much as the place. Still we chose this path so we mustn’t grumble and just get on with it.
